Chinatown is such a good song - it has an angular, otherworldliness about it, like the sound of a child's imagination. I must go and revisit the official video of it. I first became aware (as I've posted on that video) of Ruthann from the late Brian Matthew's show on UK radio, Sounds of the Sixties, when he played her demo version of Windy. There's a video of Ruthann playing Windy live where the bass player obviously had a problem in rehearsal leaving the gaps she likes to put in, because every time they come up she looks over at him and says 'don't you dare...' That makes me laugh every time.

Pete Sears bass always so good. Chaquico on guitar also great. They have lovely sound.

They did a version on the 76' tour that had conga and it was a little more syncopated. Shit sounded like Philly soul, 100.
