Jessie, you ruined a perfect song by getting rid of the flute, and replacing it with piano. This is one of my favorite songs of all time. It just touches me in a unique way. I'm glad I still have the old version.

It would be real nice if she could record with ample instrumentation all the soft songs from Gentle Giant. "Isn't it Quiet and Cold", "Aspirations", "Funny Ways", you know what I mean. There are enough soft songs that were created to make an album. The gentle part of Gentle Giant. Would be very nice and I'm sure, well appreciated and enjoyed. Cheers.

This is one of those songs I can listen to on rare occasion because it hits me with such intense passion I don't want to spoil it. Tonights victory for Donald J. Trump, POTUS 47, and for all those who have fought for him so valiantly through the years, and for every citizen of the United States and beyond, is one of those special occasions. Happy for the HOPE we all now have.

There were many horn bands at this time. BS&T and Chicago were always compared as both being commercially successful. I always felt Chicago was a Rock/Jazz band and BS&T a Jazz/Rock band. BS&T had players with jazz chops who could play serious jazz in a Brecker Brothers/Dreams kind of way. Bobby Colomby was my favorite drummer growing up along with of course Buddy Rich and later guys like Billy Cobham. Colomby had chops but played very musically. I think he went to college for psychology. So much for racking up debt getting a music degree. 😀

YES!!! I was at this concert, and not only did Dave Bergeron play a DYNAMITE trombone solo, but Bobby Colomby did EQUALLY DYNAMITE work on drums throughout this song!!! I agree that Fred Lipsius and Dick Halligan were TOTALLY FANTASTIC arrangers, and the rest of the group also turned in EQUALLY OUTSTANDING performances!!! Several years ago, I got to see Lew Soloff perform with the jazz band of a local college. Another OUTSTANDING night of music!!! I wanted to talk with Lew afterward, but he left rather quickly before I could get to the stage area. He was such an AMAZING trumpet and fluegelhorn player, and brought SO MUCH to the group.

Thank you for posting this. .I was at this concert and it was the best one I've ever been at. It happened on or around my birthday that year, and it was a present to myself to be there. My favorite group performing with the New Orleans Symphony, playing their music along with some special ones composed for it - like this one. Dick Halligan, Fred Lipsius and Dave Bargeron also composed some instrumental classical type music for themselves and the orchestra to play. Several years later when the group was in Chicago, I saw them. The line-up was quite different but David Clayton-Thomas was still with them. I got a chance to talk to him and said I had been at the concert and how much I enjoyed it. He graciously thanked me and I asked him about "Gentle Rain". He told me they never did anything with the song. As he walked away I said that was a shame. Some of the music they played that night was released on an album of their music, but I can't recall the name of it. I think they should have put the whole concert out as an album. It looks like there's at least one other performance from that concert that you posted on here, which is FANTASTIC!!! Thank you for doing it!!! As an added item, several years after my meeting with David Clayton-Thomas, I saw the group at a local festival at the time that Steve Katz re-joined them, with a completely different line-up. I was able to find him afterward, and told him I had been at the concert in New Orleans and how much I enjoyed it. He thanked me and said one thing he remembered from that night was about something one of the violinists in the orchestra had which he shared with the band...I won't go into any further details, but he and I shared a laugh over it!!!
